Study Tour of Zambia, Africa - 2005
Summer 2005

Dear Visitors,

Muli Buti...
[ Hello... ]

In June 2005, I traveled with Heifer International to Zambia, Africa. This study tour enabled me to see a side of Africa not visible to most tourists. I met, interacted, ate, and played with the people of the villages in Zambia. I welcome the opportunity to share my experiences with you through the photos and information.

The study tour was sponsored by Heifer International. On this website I have included some information about Heifer International - More information is available at the Heifer International website (please visit it).

As a strong believer in "teaching a man to fish," I was naturally drawn to Heifer’s global solutions for ending world hunger and poverty and caring for the earth. As a supporter and donor, I needed confirmation that Heifer’s mission is successful. I needed to go beyond the numbers and meet the people.

Our small group traveled with Heifer staff from the United States. The local staff in the Zambia field office provided us with an opportunity to informally discuss economic and social issues confronting the people of Zambia. We met with Heifer partners: the Minister of Agricultural Food and Fisheries in Zambia, government extension workers, international and local non-governmental organizations, and businesses — all enabling further insight into Zambia’s economy. We witnessed "an expanding network of hope, dignity, and self-reliance" in the communities of many villages.

As a study tour participant, I discovered a better understanding of global issues, the culture of Zambia, and viable solutions. I am still researching, as each answer brings a new question. I enjoy sharing some of my discoveries through the pictures I've included on this website.
